Portia P. (Hatzipetro) Axiotis, 80, of Wilbraham, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loving family. Portia was born in Springfield on June 21, 1938, the daughter of the late Angelo and Helen (Topodas) Hatzipetro. She was a graduate of Commerce High School, Class of 1957 and was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Portia spent the majority of her career as a dedicated licensed practical nurse at Wing Memorial Hospital. She then went on to work at multiple nursing agencies until her retirement. Portia was a very devoted and loving wife, mother, yia yia, sister, aunt and friend to many. She was a very proud yia yia to Tyler and Tanner and cherished spending time with them and providing them with sound advice and encouragement to always do their best. Portia was the rock of the family, and everyone looked up to her as a role model. She had an infectious personality and a lively sense of humor. Portia was always willing to lend a hand to anyone she met and enjoyed traveling with her friends. In addition to her parents she was also predeceased by her beloved husband James Axiotis. She is survived by her two devoted children, Alicia Alves and her husband David of Wilbraham, and Stephen Axiotis of Wilbraham; her brother, William Peters and his wife Mary; and her two cherished grandchildren, Tyler and Tanner Alves both of Wilbraham; as well as her extended family. Mrs. Axiotis funeral will be held on Monday, May 13th at 10:00 AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Plainfield Street, Springfield. Burial will conclude in Oak Grove Cemetery, Bay St., in Springfield. Family and friends will gather and remember Portia on Sunday, May 12, 2019 from 4-7 PM at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield.
