Richard A. Behrle, 81, a resident of Springfield for most of his life, died early Wednesday evening, February 3, 2021 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born in New London, CT, a son of the late Albert and Ruth (Hammond) Behrle and was educated from the Springfield School system. Richard served with the United States Army between the Korean War and Vietnam and after receiving his honorable discharge from active duty, he returned to civilian life working for the former Springfield Street Railway for 15 years and then the former Milton Bradley Company/Hasbro as a millwright until his retirement in 2007. Some of his favorite pastimes included listening to light classical and Big Band era music and woodworking. He also was a self-taught electronic technician well known at work who could fix just about anything he could put his hands on. Richard is survived by his best friend and wife of nearly 44 years, Audrey J. (Huckins) Behrle; three step-sons, Hugh Martin, Jr. and his wife Wendy of East Longmeadow, Michael Martin of North Kingstown, RI, and David Martin and his wife Stacy of Manchester, CT; a brother, Allen Behrle and his wife Linda of Matthews, NC; 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Richard was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Denise Gibson and his sister, Phyllis Behrle. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday evening, February 10th from 5-7 PM at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, in Springfield.
