July 14, 1948 ~ March 30, 2021 (age 72) 72 Years Old
Richard A. Britt (Rick), aka Big Daddy, 72, of Springfield, MA passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. Richard was born in Northampton, MA, on July 14, 1948, the son of the late Robert S. Britt, Sr. and Marion (Dragon) Britt. He graduated from Northampton High School in 1966 where he ran cross country and played Varsity Basketball. After graduation, he attended Northampton Commercial College. Rick’s interest in weightlifting inspired the Britts to open the famous Big Daddy’s Gym (The Beast from the East) at the X and Sunsational Plus Tanning in Springfield. He went on to compete and win many powerlifting competitions. Rick also owned and operated Allbrite, a commercial floor and window cleaning company, which serviced all of the Big Y stores. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to explore many business opportunities throughout his life. Rick was always quick with a joke and had the best sense of humor and smile. He loved watching his favorite New England sports teams, spending time vacationing with his family at the beach, and listening to his favorite songs. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother, Robert S. Britt, Jr. He is survived by his four devoted children, Vicki Britt (Paul Noreen) of Sacramento, CA, Scott Britt (Lisa Britt), former spouse, Nancy Britt (William Blais), Gianna and Anthony Britt, former spouse, Karen (Pandolfi) Britt, all of Springfield, MA, and his brother Paul Britt (Patti) of Goshen, MA. He also leaves behind his three adored grandchildren, Matthew, Marisa, and Meghan of Springfield, MA, and his dear friend, Donna Miner.
Family and friends will gather and remember Richard on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, from 5pm-7pm at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association.
