Tribute

Robert J. Conway (Bob) of Springfield, MA passed away on September 7, 2021 following a short illness. He recently celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary with his devoted wife, Theresa (Sullivan) Conway. He reached his 86th birthday last month. Bob was predeceased by his beloved oldest child, Lori Ann Corsi. He leaves behind his daughter, Donna (Chris) Callahan of North Kingstown, Rhode Island; and his son, Jay (Kathy) Conway of San Diego, CA. Bob cherished his family, regretting only that he didn’t live closer to them, especially those in California. Grampy Bob will be missed by Ali and Maddie Corsi, Devin, Kathleen, and Grace Callahan and Griffin, Gabby, and Garrett Conway.  Bob leaves one sibling, his sister, Claire Barker, who lives in California. Bob spent his career in property and casualty insurance, serving as a subject matter expert in various capacities. He responded to historic disasters across the country. Bob helped many families devastated by hurricanes, earthquakes, and fires. Those that know him best though, would say his Marine Corps service was his biggest source of pride. His patriotism was clear in all that he said and did. Bob was especially proud to be the father-in-law of Major General Christopher Callahan. Bob served his community as a Melha Shriner, enthusiastically supporting Springfield’s Shriners Hospital for Children. He was blessed with many special friends over the years. They enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and golfing. Bob became a talented woodworker and lovingly crafted pieces for his grandchildren. In recent years, Bob enjoyed impromptu car rides with his wife Terry, meandering through northern New England. He was a longtime New England sports fan. Bob’s life followed the ‘old school’ roadmap of his generation - a meaningful life created through steady hard work, a strong moral compass, no short cuts, and unwavering commitment to family. He is already missed by many people, each of whom has a great Bob Conway story. Catholic services will be held at a later date when family and friends can gather without public health concerns. Bob will be interred at Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
