Robert B. Fortier

Robert B. “Bob” Fortier, 82, a longtime resident of Hampden, formerly of Bath, ME, died late Friday morning, January 10, 2020 in the comfort of his home, with his loving family at his side. He was born and educated in Bath, a son of the late Clayton T. and Ina J. (Hodge) Fortier. Robert was a graduate of the former Morse High School and earned his B.S. degree in Business from the University of Maine. He was employed for over 37 years with Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company, from which he retired in 2000 as a Senior Claims Consultant. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church of Hampden. For 60 years, Robert was the beloved husband and best friend of Shirley A. (Ricker) Fortier who died in May of 2019 and leaves five loving children, Janet S. Carson and her husband Steven of Hampden, Nancy E. Paltell and her husband Jack of MD, Gary M. Fortier and his wife René of PA, Sally A. Murphy and her husband John of TX, and Robert W. Fortier of NY; and five cherished grandchildren, Lisa, Violet, Benjamin, Casey and Reilly. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Clayton T. Fortier, Jr. A private committal will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery and there will be no calling hours. Instead of flowers, Robert’s family kindly requests that contributions in his memory be directed to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Inc., 3 International Dr., Suite 200, Rye Brook, NY 10573.
