Roger W. DeGrandpre

May 2, 1943 ~ April 10, 2018 (age 74)

Roger W. DeGrandpre, 74, of Hampden passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Springfield on May 2, 1943, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Marie (Beaulieu) DeGrandpre. Roger was a 1961 graduate of Cathedral High School. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam War where he was a top security police officer. Roger worked as a fuel lab technician at Hamilton for over 25 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Hampden and was a member of the Corvette Club of Western Massachusetts. Roger was an avid chevy car guy, and enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, and snow mobiles. He was an honorable, ethical, and loyal human being. Roger always lent a helping hand to everyone and was the go-to guy for everything. Above everything else, he adored his family and loved spending time with them. Roger was the devoted husband to his loving wife of 53 years, Janis (Rovelli) DeGrandpre; devoted father to his daughter, Tracie DeGrandpre-Abodeeb of Agawam; and devoted grandfather to Nicolas and Alyssa Abodeeb. He also leaves his sister, Louise Shannon and her husband David; several nieces and nephews; his Palmer mom, Jan; and many friends. Family and friends are welcome to gather for A Liturgy of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 10am in St. Mary’s Church, Hampden. Private burial will be held at a later date.
