Rosemarie A. (Geiss) Szalai, 86, of Wilbraham, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2023 at her residence with family by her side. Rosemarie was born in Stuttgart, Germany on April 7, 1937. She was orphaned at an early age as a result of WWII, growing up in the German countryside. She met her husband Bela, a Hungarian refugee serving for the U.S. Army, while he was stationed in Germany. Eventually the pair moved back to America and married in 1962. Together, they built their American dream. Rosemarie loved gardening and could typically be found planting flowers and shrubs, building rock walls, and taking care of the yard when she was younger. She always enjoyed watching the birds in her bird bath, especially the hummingbirds and cardinals. In addition to her parents, Rosemarie was also predeceased by her husband Bela Szalai and son Michael Szalai. She is survived by her two sons Stephen Szalai and his wife Ivie of Beaufort, SC, and Andrew Szalai and his wife Heidi of Springfield. She also leaves her 4 grandchildren Spencer, Sandor, Sarah and Jacob. Family and friends will gather in remembrance of Rosemarie on Friday, June 9, 2023 from 4-6p.m. at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield. Burial will be private.
