Tribute

We are sad to announce the passing of Samuel Elijah Sias of Hampden, MA. He left this earth to soon at the age of 26 on December 2, 2022. Samuel passed away after a battle with mental illness. Samuel was born October 12, 1996, the youngest of 5 children and grew up in Hampden, MA. Son to Jeffrey and Annemarie Sias. Sam was the silly little brother who followed around his older sisters and brothers, Amanda Spear-Purchase, Jeffrey Sias, Casey Jo Spear, & Joseph Sias. Sam quickly became the little brother to all their friends as well, he looked up to and admired them all, especially Amanda’s now husband James Purchase. Sam and his family enjoyed many adventures to the beach, camping, amusement parks, shows, museums, Fenway and more. Sam played baseball, basketball and was on track and field at Minnechaug High School. Sam’s supportive family was on the sideline at every event, cheering him on. Sam suffered the unthinkable loss of his best friend, Evan Feeney, in elementary school. Sam and Evan had an unbelievable bond and were inseparable. After the loss of Evan, Sam began to attend programs to help cope with this loss and participated in a weeklong program in Maine, Camp Manitou. When he got older, Sam became a volunteer counselor at the camp. While at camp, Sam formed a great friendship with Quinn Bazinet, a true friend to the end. Following graduation from Minnechaug High School, Sam attended HCC and worked with his sister in the box office at CityStage & Symphony Hall and most recently at Mercedes of Springfield. Sam was lucky to have the love and care of his soulmate, Rhea Gilligan of Fall River MA. They have enjoyed many years of laughter together and she will miss him deeply. Sam was also the proud uncle to 5 beautiful young children, Teagan, TJ, Lulu, Theodore and Penelope, who admiringly referred to him as "DAH". Teagan and Sam had a special bond, he was such a proud uncle, attending her games, plays and school functions. Sam loved animals, had a witty personality and the biggest kindest heart. The loss of Sam burns deep in his family's hearts, especially his parents, but his spirit will live on in them. The family finds so much comfort in hearing stories about how Sam has touch so many lives. His true kindness will continue, Sam was an organ donor, and his passing will give life to others.
