Sandra J. (Learned) White, 80, formerly of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at her home in Columbia City, IN surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Springfield, MA on May 1, 1937, to the late Benjamin F. and Helen A. (Slicer) Learned. She was the oldest of 16 children. Sandy spent 79 years of her life in Springfield and moved to Indiana to be closer to her children. She graduated from Trade High School and while growing up, she was involved in the drum corps and it was during these early years that she met her future husband, Douglas White. The two would go on to be married on November 29, 1957 in Westfield. Sandy spent over 30 years working for Milton Bradley and retired from their R&D department. She also retired from the deli department at Big Y Foods. Sandy was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and was a lifelong member of Marksmen Drum and Bugle Corp. She was as an avid hockey fan, holding season tickets of the Springfield Falcon’s for several years. She loved life and enjoyed traveling and going to theaters and casinos. Along with her parents, Sandy was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Doug White, in 2016; her brothers, Benjamin Jr, Robert, David and James Learned; and sisters, Janice Benware, Ann Burroughs, Rosemary Learned, and Karen Burroughs. She leaves her loving children, Sharon Bliss, Theresa “T” DuBois and her husband Mark, Arline White, and Patrick White all of Columbia City, IN; two granddaughters, Brittany White and Audrey DuBois; and seven siblings, Charles Learned and his wife Lorraine of Gibsonville, NC, Sheila Stanley of Chicopee, MA, Richard Learned and his husband David of Wales, MA, John Learned of Winooski, VT, Donald Learned and his wife Sherry of Agawam, MA, Shirley Flebotte and her husband Rick of Ludlow, MA, and Melody Taylor of Guilford, VT. Funeral services for Sandy will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 starting at 9am at Byron Keenan Funeral Home, 1858 Allen St, Springfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Patrick’s Church, Springfield. Rites of Committal will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 from 4-7pm. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to American Cancer Society.
