Sean Patrick Murphy, 62, died peacefully at home on January 4th, with his children by his side. Sean, a lifelong Springfield resident, was the son of the late Daniel and Joan (O’Sullivan) Murphy. He was raised on Hungry Hill where he built friendships and loyalties that endure to this day. Sean was a graduate of Cathedral High School, and served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. His military service was followed by a thirty year career as a correctional officer with the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department. Sean was also employed for many years at the Big E, where he was a fixture during the fair in the Young Building International Pavilion. Following retirement, he continued security work for the various shows held on the Big E grounds. Sean was also a longtime member of the Italian American Citizens Club. He was predeceased by his life partner, Olivia Brooks, and leaves two children, Patrick of Springfield, his partner Brittany Ferris and their son Malachi, and his daughter, Siobhan of Agawam; his sister, Joanne Dooley and her husband Richard of Springfield and their son Kevin; and his brother, Philip and his wife Darlene of Medford and their daughters, Shauna and Dani. Relatives and friends are welcome to call on Wednesday evening from 4-7 PM at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen St., in Springfield. Burial and Military Honors will be held on Thursday, Jan 10th at 3:00 PM at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sean’s memory can be sent to the Sisters of St. Joseph Retirement Fund, 577 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
