Shirley A. (Ricker) Fortier, a resident of Hampden since 1966, formerly of Bath, Maine, died early Tuesday morning, May 7, 2019 at Hartford Hospital. She was born in Knox, ME educated in Bath, a daughter of the late Harvey and Madeline (Sanborn) Ricker and was a graduate of Morse High School Class of 1955 and Maine Medical Center School of Nursing Class of 1958. Shirley was employed as a registered nurse for over 50 years most recently with Baystate Medical Center and Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford Springs, CT. She was an active longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Hampden. Shirley is survived by her devoted husband and best friend of 60 years, Robert B. Fortier of Hampden and leaves five loving children, Janet S. Carson and her husband Steven of Hampden, Nancy E. Paltell and her husband Jack of MD, Gary M. Fortier and his wife René of PA, Sally A. Murphy and her husband John of TX, and Robert W. Fortier of NY; a brother Harvey Ricker of Maine; and four cherished grandchildren, Lisa, Violet, Benjamin and Reilly. Relatives and friends may gather directly Friday, May 10th for a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 27 Somers Road, Hampden. A private committal will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery and there will be no calling hours. Instead of flowers, Shirley’s family kindly requests that contributions in her memory be directed to St. Mary’s Church, 27 Somers Rd., Hampden, MA 01036.
