Stephen George Haramut, 87, a longtime resident of Longmeadow, passed away in the comfort of his home early Friday morning, November 19, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Steve was born in Northampton, on October 27, 1934, the son of the late George and Arlene (Hilliker) Haramut and was a graduate of Smith Vocational High School in Northampton. Steve proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps and the Army. He was employed with Daniel O’ Connell’s Sons Construction Company of Holyoke for many years retiring in 1993. His time there included him being Superintendent on large building projects including The Sheraton at Monarch Place in Springfield and the old Heritage Bank in Holyoke. Throughout his life Steve had many passions. He was a skilled carpenter, building everything from small projects to renovations. Steve also enjoyed motorcycles, sports cars and boats, owning many throughout his life. If it had a motor, he liked it. Steve and his wife Nancy loved traveling, seeing much of the world. He spent most of his retirement with Nancy, enjoying time on their boat “The Good Life” in Mystic, CT, where he loved clamming and fishing. However, he was happiest when his family was there, enjoying their company. He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Longmeadow. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by two brothers Jack and Gary Haramut. Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Nancy (Passero) Haramut of Longmeadow; and leaves his devoted children, Vincent Haramut of Bokeelia, FL, Deborah Ashe and her husband Mark of East Longmeadow, and Thomas Haramut and his wife Danielle of Longmeadow; Lori Schiaffino, daughter-in-law of Long Island, NY; a sister, Cynthia Gagnon and her husband Mike of Port Orange, FL; eight cherished grandchildren, Nicole Mabey and her husband Tom of Franklin Lakes, NJ, Jennifer Douglas of Greenfield, Brianna Ashe and her husband Peter Stiansen of Longmeadow, Nicholas Ashe of Los Angeles, CA, Christopher Haramut and Joseph Haramut both of Longmeadow; three cherished great-grandchildren, Emilia, Isabella and Maya; many nieces and nephews and relatives, among them Jane Granger of West Springfield, and Giovanina Thompson of Windsor, CT who helped care for him as his health failed. The Haramut family would like to thank his caregiver’s Debbie, Lori Anne, Francheska and Alyssa as well as the Hospice staff for their compassion and care given to Steve throughout his journey. In addition, he leaves a son Stephen and his children Joseph and Stephanie. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 9 am in St. Mary’s Church, 519 Longmeadow Street, Longmeadow, MA. Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 22, 2021 from 4-6 PM at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, MA. Burial with military honors will be held Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at 11 AM at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA.
