Vidal Martinez Guelen, 66, of Waterbury, CT., passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT. Vidal was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, on July 13, 1953, the son of the late Vidal Guelen and Elba Martinez. Vidal Martinez Guelen Served in the United States Marine Corps in 1971 where he earned the National Defense Service Medal and Rifle Marksmanship Badge. After the military, he worked in Dentistry and the United States Postal Service in Brooklyn NY before settling in Massachusetts where he was employed by the Massachusetts Turn Pike. He ended his career working at Veterans Administration working with fellow Veterans, as he loved working with People. His passions included Sports, the Yankees, NY Knicks, and the NY Jets. He also enjoyed Salsa music, playing Dominoes, spending time with family, Marshal Arts and had a strong passion for Art, which was one of his great hidden talents.
In addition to his parents he was also predeceased by a daughter, Lisette Guelen on August 27, 2003. He is survived by his domestic partner of 9 yrs. Luz Serrano, his five devoted children Linette Guelen, Annette Guelen, Vidal Anthony Guelen, Alia Guelen, and Vidalis Guelen, as well as his 4 grandchildren, Jennessey Morales, Derrick Maldonado, Alana Guelen, Vidal Guelen Jr., and his 14 siblings and an abundance of nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather and remember Vidal on Sunday, November 17, 2019 from 1p.m-5p.m. at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, MA.
