Karl H. Krokenberger, 66, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born in Stuttgart, Germany to the late Ernst and Anna (Buehringer) Krokenberger. Karl was a graduate of the former Springfield Trade High School, Springfield Technical Community College and Western New England College, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in each: Electrical, Computer and Mechanical Engineering. He was employed for 21 years as an engineer for Digital Corporation.  Karl served his country during Vietnam from 1967-1970. Attaining the rank of SP 5 he received the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm.  Karl collected rare coins and was in an article by Ken Porter for his spiked head die cracked silver proof quarter dollar in the June 3, 2003 issue of Numismatic News, he enjoyed tinkering with electrical, computer and woodworking building birdhouses, doll beds and lighthouses for his daughters. He also enjoyed salt and freshwater fishing, had an extreme love for science and was an avid Red Sox Fan. Karl is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Marion C. (Whipple) Krokenberger of Springfield, his three loving daughters, Kimberly S. Jacques, Kelly J. Cavallini and her husband Joseph, all of Springfield and Karen A. Lemay and her husband John of Chicopee, his sister Susan Larrow of Bondsville, MA, 4 cherished grandchildren, Samantha, Dominic, Jessica and William and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Sadly Karl was predeceased by his cherished granddaughter Zoey Jane. A Funeral Service for Karl will be held on Sunday at 7PM in the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield. Visiting hours will precede the service from 4-7 PM. Burial with Military Honors will be held on Monday at 9 AM in the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam.
