Brian J. Whitney, 36, of Springfield, formerly of Chicopee and Holyoke, died late Wednesday afternoon, February 8, 2017 in the comfort of his home, with his loving family at his side. He was born in Holyoke, and educated in Palmer, a son of Debora (Roberts) Whitney Hawley of Springfield with whom he made his home and the late Woodrow Whitney. Brian was employed for many years as a chef at numerous restaurants in the Greater Springfield area including the Delaney House and the Log Cabin before his health issues required him to take a leave of absence from the industry. Besides his mother he leaves two brothers, David Whitney of Texas and Joseph Nai and his fiancée Kim Delude of Chicopee; his sister, Mary- Jane O’Dou and her husband Shawn of Vermont; his paternal grandmother, Rita Manfredi of Chicopee; two nieces, a nephew and several aunts, uncles and cousins as well as his many good friends from the Club and Brotherhood. Relatives and friends may gather on Thursday evening from 5-7 PM at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen St., in Springfield. Burial will be private for family only.
