March 8, 1946 ~ April 3, 2017 (age 71) 71 Years Old

David Hitas, 71, of the Sixteen Acres section of Springfield, led a good life full of treasured moments with his loving family. He enjoyed trips to Foxwood Casino, antique car shows, watching the encore western channel. As an avid sports fan, David followed the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. His greatest joy in life was spending time with family and friends, enjoying a good movie or dining out. He passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. David was born in Springfield on March 8, 1946, the son of the late Andrew and Anne (Fusco) Hitas. He was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School, Class of 1963. David was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Springfield, and was employed for thirty-three years by the United States Postal Service from which he retired in 2008. After he retired, David was employed for several years with Barco Automotive Parts of Springfield. He is survived by his beloved wife of forty-seven years, Cheryle (Costa) Hitas of Springfield; and leaves two devoted children, Christopher Hitas and his wife Carol of Springfield, and Krystyna Boisjolie and her husband John of West Springfield; five cherished grandchildren, Brandon, Wesley, Connor, Olivia and Tyler; three brothers, Peter Hitas and his wife Kathy of Agawam, Andrew Hitas of Florida and Paul Hitas of Springfield; two sisters-in-law, Donna Costa of Westfield and Gayle Fouli and her husband Andrew of Westfield; and a brother-in- law, Gaery Costa of Agawam. The Hitas family would like to especially thank Dr. Fisher and his staff of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Dr. Ochs and the nursing staff, especially nurses Katie and Kelly of the Caritas Cancer Center, for the wonderful care provided to David and all the Hitas family. Family and friends will gather and remember David on Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, from 8:30 - 10:30 AM followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM in Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church, 407 Boston Road, Springfield.
