Maurice Savoie, 90, of Springfield, passed away with his loving family by his side on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Wingate of Springfield nursing home. Maurice was born in Saint-Bernard-de-Beauce, Quebec, Canada, where he lived before coming to the United States in 1957. Maurice worked for Alton E. Gleason Paving Co. for many years, and then for the Town of Longmeadow, from which he retired. During his many trips back to Canada, he met his beloved wife Monique. They married in 1961 and decided to make their home and start a family in Springfield. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed countless trips to Canada to visit family, as much as he enjoyed having his family come to visit here. Most of all, Maurice loved spending time with his grandchildren who will miss their ‘Grandpapa’. Maurice is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-six years, Monique (Côté) Savoie of Springfield, and two sons, Robert Savoie and his wife Kathy of Springfield, and Marc Savoie and his wife Maria of Hampden, as well as four adored grandchildren – Danielle, Chantal, Dominic and Nicholas. He also leaves a brother Hugues Savoie, many brothers and sisters-in-law, along with many more nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. He has been loved and will be missed by all of his family and friends. Maurice was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017 from 9:00 to 10:15 A.M. at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, MA, 01118, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:15 A.M. at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, 407 Boston Road in Springfield.
